![]() With S-VCM installed, those same grades show only a 1 mph drop or no drop at all before recovering to the set funny how something like the Auto-Stop-Start feature is something that would drive anybody crazy ?!? □ I cannot believe Honda that they continue to put this ridiculous feature in it's production line of all Honda's. What I have observed on our 2023 Ody is that before S-VCM, the cruise control would often drop 2 or 3 mph on certain uphill grades before kicking down and recovering speed. Starting the car with the system turned off is next best to a dash switch that simply stayed in whatever state it was in when the car was last driven.ī) S-VCM may not be necessary on the 2023, but I have a friend who paid the Honda dealer $4500 for a ring job on his 2014 Ody because he didn't have S-VCM (he does now). Too many exceptions to when it will and won't, and then a shock when it does (stop & restart). For our location and driving pattern, the auto-stop-start feature makes little difference in fuel economy, but it introduces an element of distraction and unpredictability. My rationale back when was: 1) It was specified for the S2000 engine, which certainly was a more demanding application, and 2) it had about twice the volume of the 'new' tiny filter that came on the 2012 Ody.Ī) The Idlestopper has remedied something which both my wife and I found very irritating. Use the official Honda oil filter (p/n 15400-plm-a02) ? I used the Honda 15400-PCX-004 filters for most of the 10.5 years that we owned our 2012 Ody - switching to the Honda 15400-PCX-306 when it superseded the -004 part number. I have installed Smart VCM and Idlestopper too - observations below. We spent to have the full front end wrapped with clear PPF, and we invested in a set of BBS alloy rims with Nokian snows & TPMS sensors for winter. It's Obsidian Blue Pearl, with roof rails, weather protection package, and Weather Tech mats (all but cargo area). Perhaps my question is as much academic as anything else.In February we finally received our (my wife's) new 2023 EXL. ![]() So, no problem, I can hire this out & likely will & I presume he will reset the minder with regard to the timing belt. He told me that I could wait until the minder light told me and that he normally expects it to trigger between 105-120K, depending on driving style (a concept well-documented here, got that now!). I called last week and that's when I was introduced to the full concept of the Maintenance Minder. From what I gather it's not a hard job but time-consuming & tedious if you don't do it regularly, so I planning on hiring it out to a good local Honda mechanic. Did i reset all of the maintenance intervals? Now at 110K, I was planning on changing the timing belt. So, at the time, I thought this was only oil life & no big deal. If This was a shorter interval than would have tripped the minder (probably 20%.unfortunately I don't remember), and once I was done I used the button to reset the oil life reminder. I was trying to be preemptive & I wasn't sure if the % being displayed was meaningful. I changed the oil at this summer 105k (sythetic to sythetic) anticipating a 1500 mile road trip. I expected to be doing a timing belt w/in a few K miles upon purchase and until last week never new a "maintenance minder" was a thing. We bought it at 99k and it now has almost 110k. ![]() ![]() question, but I'm a relatively new co-owner of a 2012 Odyssey.
